Vice Chancellor Profile
Prof. Dr. Wasim Qazi is a distinguished educationist and visionary leader with over three decades of experience transforming the educational landscape of Pakistan. His career is defined by a steadfast commitment to ensuring accessible, high-quality education for all, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, or socioeconomic status.
Dr. Qazi has been instrumental in the establishment and advancement of several leading higher education institutions in Pakistan, including Hamdard University, The University of Lahore, The University of Faisalabad, Iqra University, and Saifee Burhani University. His contributions span urban and rural areas across Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he has championed academic excellence and sustainable institutional growth. He currently serves as the founding Vice Chancellor of Karachi Metropolitan University. Previously, he held two terms as President/Vice Chancellor of Iqra University and served as Vice Chancellor of Saifee Burhani University, promoting entrepreneurial, innovative, and student-focused education.
In addition to his leadership roles, Dr. Qazi is a Visiting Professor at Roma Tre University, Italy, and Southwest Jiaotong University, China. He was also a Member of the Syndicate at the University of Karachi, the Board of Governance at the National Institute of Child Health, Karachi, and the Selection Board at Allama Iqbal Open University.
During his tenure as President/Vice Chancellor of Iqra University, Dr. Qazi emphasized creating sustainable financial models and robust governance systems. Under his leadership, the university recruited over 250 PhD faculty members, with a strong focus on diversity and inclusion, ensuring women formed a significant portion of the academic workforce. These efforts significantly enhanced the institution’s academic profile and reputation.
