I am pleased to announce that Karachi Medical and Dental College and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital have been elevated to university status as Karachi Metropolitan University. KMU is now a comprehensive university offering diverse faculties, including Business Administration, Computer Sciences, Nursing, Bio-Medical Engineering, Pharmacy, and more.

Our mission is to equip students with the skills needed for modern careers. Each department will collaborate closely with industries, ensuring our programs are relevant, innovative, and internationally accredited. We have ambitious plans for our medical, dental, pharmacy, and nursing students to prepare for international exams, opening doors to global career opportunities.

We are also committed to fostering a vibrant research culture, supporting entrepreneurial initiatives, and forging partnerships with leading universities worldwide. Through exchange programs, we aim to broaden academic horizons and create valuable global networks.

Founded in 1991, Karachi Medical & Dental College is Pakistan’s first medical and dental college that is established, managed and administered by a Municipal Corporation. KMDC is affiliated with Abbassi Shaheed Hospital, one of the largest public sector hospitals in the country. The college was founded with a vision to redefine standards of medical education by introducing a test based admission. KMDC denounces the quota system and self-financing schemes, and offers admission based solely on merit and aptitude. Thus, KMDC was also the first public sector medical institution to initiate an entrance test. Other medical college soon followed suit and thus KMDC became a prominent contributor in raising the standards of education in Pakistan.

The college was established to cater the escalated demands of Pakistan’s largest metropolitan and to meet the competitive standards of medical and dental education on a global level. With only 50 MBBS and 25 BDS students in its first year, KMDC now enrols around 250 medical and 100 dental students every year. Despite the spur of countless medical colleges and institutes in Karachi, KMDC has maintained its position as one of the most prestigious and highly-esteemed medical and dental institution in Pakistan.

Karachi Medical and Dental College was founded with a mission to revolutionize the standards of medical education in the country. Our vision is to train the health sector workforce of the future by emphasizing not only on learning, but also on research and development in the clinical skills. In order to achieve its goals, KMDC plays a proactive role in reviewing improvements in existing bodies of knowledge.

To Initiate Change For Good

There are a lot of initiatives that place KMDC in a completely different league when compared to other medical colleges in the country. It was also the first medical education institution to base its admission solely on merit. Through its affiliation with Abbassi Shaheed Hospital, KMDC aims to provide innovative and patient-oriented health care. Our efforts are geared towards economic development and well being of Pakistan.

To Lead By Example

More than two decades have passed and KMDC has evolved into one of the most competitive medical colleges. The short yet shining history of the institution is adorned by several award and achievements. It is recognized and approved by major governing bodies including PMDC, Ministry of Health, FAIMER, and AVICENNA.

KMDC’s alumni and students are now serving humanity not only in the best hospitals in Pakistan and abroad, but also in remote and rural areas where quality medical care was not previously available.
